Through A Child's Eyes: Kid parties for Adults

What would you do if you were given the chance, even for a little while, to be a kid again? If we’re all honest with ourselves, we’d all answer with a resounding, “I’ll take it!” There are many ways for us to channel our inner kid, and one of those is to celebrate our quarter-life birthdays with children’s parties. It has become a growing trend because it is so fun and it gives us a chance to drop all of our worries in our adult life and see the world in much younger eyes.

Here are some suggestions on how you can throw the best children’s party of your adult life.

There’s no place like home

You need not go far to go back in time and experience a children's party all over again. It can be done right in the comfort of your own home.

You can start off the party by welcoming everyone with snacks that you loved when you were kids: Hotdogs on stick with marshmallows on the tip, chicken lollipops or a good ol' fashioned pinoy-style party spaghetti. And once you're rested you can play all sorts of games you played when you were kids like the classic relay-races, musical chairs (more popularly known as Trip to Jerusalem), the newspaper dance and many others.

Just hold yourself back on the music though as most kid parties will include the latest novelty hits which may or may not be ear grating to you and your guests. But just in case they do make you want to jab someone with a fork, better stick with what you really like.

The advantage of doing this in your home is that you have total control over what you will do. You pretty much dictate everything from the flow of the programme, the food, the music, the games and the silliness. Of course, it also helps that it's in an enclosed space where no one else can see your temporary infantilism.

Fast times call for fastfood

If you're not really too embarrassed about having a little juvenile fun, you may opt to have a children's party at your favorite fastfood restaurant. Surprising as it is, they do accomodate adults to hold children's parties.

With this option you pretty much just pay for everything and the restaurant will take care of it. The decorations, the favors, the food are pretty much out of your hands (of course they still get input from you). The only drawback is, well, you and your friends are in plain view of everybody else eating at the restaurant.

It can be very fun, though. In some cases, nostalgic. Remember when you were young and you would attend one of these parties? When you'd either be waiting for the food to arrive, or participating in the games and crying if you didn't win? It pretty much takes you back to those times when things were so carefree that you'd be so upset over not winning that much coveted character notepad.

It can even be more fun if you all dressed up like how you dressed when you were kids. Sport a sideways cap, suspenders, shorts and sneakers for the boys while the girls may don their overalls and pigtails. That is, again, if you don't mind the attention as putting on this kind of garb will definitely put everyone in a very kiddie mood. And that kiddie mood will be even more evident once the mascot appears (this is also the part when all hilarity ensues).

Take me out to the boardgame

There are those of you who would like a more controlled and quiet environment but still feel that air of youth. You can try organizing a boardgame party. As what it suggests, it's a fun-filled day dice-rolling, card-flipping and a little number-crunching.

If you have enough boardgames (Monopoly, Cranium, Clue, etc.) or you and your friends each contribute a game to play, you can just have it in your house. All you have to do is prepare some handy snacks, drinks and a lot of table space. You can even extend it to an overnight and have more fun.

Alternately, if you don't have much games and you'd like to play more than the usual stuff, you can invte all your friends over to a hobby cafe where you can rent the games and just spend the whole day there, beating each other in games as robust as Risk or as simple as UNO.

It's all about having fun

Having this kind of party gives you the opportunity to be act like a child, even for just a day, but it doesn't give you the license to be immature. Please remember that despite the theme of your celebration, you are all still adults and there is no need for unnecessary horseplay which may lead to some of your guests getting offended or hurt. Just remember that you are all here to have fun--the kind of fun that only a kid can truly experience.
