Bouquet Tosses and Reverse Psychology

THE NEW FACE OF FEAR. In our culture, flowers are dodged, not caught.
In our conservative culture, the bouquet and garter toss is the most avoided part of the wedding reception. Almost everyone is too shy to catch the bouquet or garter, plus the thought of being the next to be wed makes the guests hesitant.

Twist it around and use reverse psychology to make your guests participate in this dying tradition (in this country, at least). Make every single man and woman stand up to join, but appeal to their desire to NOT get the bouquet or garter. Make them play for the option to get out of the game.

For Bachelors

Blow the Balloon Game

In this game, the emcee will be calling out the single men. Each man will be given a deflated balloon, one of which has a hole small hole in it. The bachelors will race to blow and pop their balloons. The last one to do so will get the garter.

Limbo Rock

The couple will hold a long tie or stick for this game. Bachelors will one by one go under the line doing the “limbo” while showing their best moves. First will be chin level, down to shoulder until it reach the lowest level part of the body. If you don’t want to get the garter, your body should not touch the line. The first guy who touches the line gets the garter.

Who’s Who?

This is a wedding game that can be done when you already have the bouquet winner. The female who won in the bouquet toss will be asked to sit in front, blindfolded. The host will call for single males, who will be then standing behind her. There will be set of questions (ex: “Do you like tall, medium or not-so tall guys?”, “Do you like dark or fair complexion?”, and the like) for the bouquet winner that corresponds to the description of male participants. The last man standing who matches all the descriptions that the girl chose will get the garter.

For Bachelorettes

Trip to Jerusalem

For this game, the garter winner should be determined first. He will then be seated, front and center. Once the music is on, single ladies will be dancing around him and once the music stops, the first participant who will sits on his lap will be eliminated. The last woman standing wins the bouquet.

Catch a Rose Game

The bride will throw single stalks of roses. In this game, single ladies should catch the roses that the bride will throw, either one by one or in groups of three or four. Those who are able to catch a rose will be eliminated from the game. The last woman standing (and wasn’t able to catch the last rose) will be declared the winner for the bouquet.

How Well Do You Know the Couple?

This game aims to know how well you know the couple. There will be set of questions to be asked with multiple possible answers that pertains everything about the couple (ex: 'When did they become officially together?', 'What’s the couple’s favorite song?', etc.). The participant who gets the correct answer can take her seat so if you don’t want to get the bouquet, you'll have to answer a question right.

To make things more interesting and worth the so-called embarrassment for the guests, add in some surprise prizes for the winners. And keep up the excitement level so that the guests will see this not as a tradition that literally labels the winners as the next-in-line to walk the aisle, but rather as a fun activity that will keep the party going.
